I was attacked with a timesheet earlier this tax season for logging a little less than 50 hours in early February. The way I was scheduled with the progress I was making did not warrant more work at the time (I was also working out some VPN issues so that I could do some work from home). However, I was asked the open-ended, "How many hours can you give us?" question. Rather than being asked, how much can you get done?, how many projects can you complete? As if the only measure of what I have or will accomplish is the amount of time spent in my cubicle.

This common perception among accountants in public practice and in corporate America will drive me back to school to study economics and persue a career where measurement models attempt to have predictive value on reality rather than no relevance to reality.
